More japanese companies will come to invest in the mexican state of Guanajuato
The Consul of Japan in Leon said that companies in the automotive and agri-food sectors are preparing to arrive in the state.
León, Gto. – Japan will seek to consolidate its position as Guanajuato’s main trading partner and proof of this is that Japanese companies in the clean energy, automotive and agro-industry sectors are interested in setting up operations in the state, said Katsumi Itagaki, Consul General of Japan in Guanajuato.
Katsumi Itagaki said that Japanese plants installed in Guanajuato, such as Mazda, Honda and Toyota, need to install technologies to take advantage of clean energy, but the federal government must facilitate the simplification of procedures and the granting of permits.
“We have three Japanese companies that want to invest in the production of clean energy, they are not of a large size like Iberdrola, from Spain, but there are companies from Japan that want to set up in Guanajuato to produce clean energy,” he said.
The Consul of Japan in León reiterated that he expects the government of Claudia Sheinbaum to be more open to renewable energies, as she promised in her campaign, because the industry in Mexico requires it to be more productive.
On the contrary, he said that they expect a more significant advance in the state of Guanajuato due to the continuity of the government and they trust that its economic policy will encourage the promotion of industries from Japan.
And he added: “some companies from the automotive and food sectors are about to materialize, but it has not yet been announced by them. I can say that there are several companies that want to come to Guanajuato, because they want to produce for the United States market, there is no other country in the world with a competitive advantage like Mexico, that is why Guanajuato has three Japanese assembly plants in Salamanca, Celaya and Apaseo el Grande, this does not exist in Argentina or Brazil, this phenomenon only exists in Guanajuato”, he explained.
Katsumi Itagaki announced that the expansion of the plants installed in Guanajuato is being analyzed, since by 2030 it is expected that production for the U.S. market will be almost entirely gasoline-electric hybrid cars.
“Toyota has already started to produce the hybrid Tacoma pickup truck from Guanajuato, and little by little it is already in the U.S. market, and it will be the same with the rest of the vehicles,” he emphasized.
He said that the U.S. market continues to be a high consumer of Japanese technology due to the efficiency and performance of Japanese vehicles.
“They are looking for efficiency and we know that they are a consumer country of large cars that require a lot of gasoline to move, however, a large part of their consumers have been changing their minds, now they are looking for energy efficiency and Japanese brands consider that hybrid cars are the best option in the coming years,” he said.
