Toyota reaffirms investment in Guanajuato despite Trump’s threats

Apaseo el Grande, GuanajuatoToyota Motor Manufacturing Guanajuato will not be affected by the arrival of Donald Trump as president of the United States, nor by the tariffs on exports from Mexico and Canada if they are applied from Saturday, February 1, due to the fact that its investments are long-term.

This is what Fernando Colmenero, Subdirector of Communication and Public Relations for Toyota Mexico, said, adding that they hope that despite what is said, Mexico will do well and that the good relationship with the United States will continue.

«Nothing has been said yet, we have a close cooperation with governments, the vision of a brand is very long-term. We believe that our country and the relationship with the United States will go very well,» he said.

In other matters, Fernando Colmenero said that Toyota is currently producing the Tacoma Hybrid Electric pickup truck at the Apaseo el Grande plant in the state of Guanajuato.

He pointed out that the new Tacoma Hybrid Electric is the first electrified vehicle to be manufactured in Mexico and that production has begun in Guanajuato.

The Japanese OEM invested 328 million dollars in its Guanajuato plant for the production of this model, taking the state’s automotive industry to the next level.

«This investment was to bring all the technology for the manufacture of the Tacoma in Mexico, because we are developing Tacoma Hybrid Electric, we are hybrids in Mexico, it is great news that it will be produced with these levels of quality, because the most modern Toyota plant in Mexico is the one in Apaseo el Grande,» he said.
