Nearshoring boosts the growth of Guanajuato Puerto Interior: 12 new companies have arrived
Thanks to the nearshoring phenomenon, Guanajuato Puerto Interior, located in the heart of Mexico, had an expansion of 12 new companies during 2024, in addition to a 45% growth in existing companies that decided to reinvest in expanding their operations last year.
«Forty-five percent of the companies are reinvesting their profits to increase their capacity, some of them in a very decisive way, despite the uncertain environment at the national level, and others are arriving with new investments as a result of nearshoring. So, with a mix of both, Puerto Interior continues to grow in terms of the volume of jobs we have,» reported the General Director of Guananato Puerto Interior, Héctor López Santillana.
By the end of 2023, the companies consolidated in Puerto Interior registered 30 thousand formal jobs. López Santillana affirmed that the results for 2024 are still being measured, although growth is expected, since by the end of that year there were already 142 companies operating in the industrial park.
Although the inertia of automotive companies in the state continues, there was also growth in the production of food for human consumption and pets, as well as in other sectors such as logistics, construction and cosmetics.
López Santillana attributes this expansion of foreign companies in Guanajuato to the geopolitical tensions generated by the United States, where a greater number of investors have opted to establish their operational centers near their main consumer markets and in strategic zones such as Guanajuato.
«International uncertainty, pandemics and geopolitical tensions are causing many companies to try to be close to consumer markets. Since North America is the most important consumer market in the world, this gives our country, and Guanajuato in particular, the opportunity to attract new investments,» he said.
