Japan continues to be the King of investments in Guanajuato

As a result of her recent working tour of various locations in Japan, the main investor in the automotive industry in Guanajuato, the Governor of the State, Libia Denisse García Muñoz Ledo, highlighted in her weekly televised conference, Conectando con la Gente, that investments of 105.8 million dollars were obtained, which is equivalent to 2.1 billion pesos and the generation of 513 new direct jobs.

The governor said she was pleased with the results and that her meetings with the CEOs of Toyota, Mazda, and Honda allowed her to assure them that Japanese investments in Guanajuato are well protected.

The following stand out among the announcements regarding new investments:

Senyo will invest $20 million to build its first plant in Abasolo. The company specializes in manufacturing bearing rings for the automotive and aeronautical industries.

Nagase Atecs is another company that has announced investments in Guanajuato. The company will invest $11 million to build and operate a new plant in León. Nagase Atecs specializes in vertical plastic injection and will implement this technology outside of Japan for the first time. The project will generate 130 direct jobs.

Above all, Nagase Atecs seeks to encourage participation in the local supply chain, one of the current state administration’s priorities.

Another investment announcement was made by NHK Spring. The company will invest $55 million to build a new plant in addition to the one already in operation in Irapuato. This project will generate 233 new direct jobs.

In addition to the important investment announcements, the Governor of Guanajuato pointed out that important agreements were also reached; one of them is the organization of a Hiroshima-Guanajuato supply fair focused particularly on the development of local suppliers.

In this regard, Muñoz Ledo recalled that during the tour, they visited the Mazda plant. Mazda is one of the most important Japanese partners of the automotive industry in Guanajuato. Despite the uncertain outlook caused by Donald Trump’s tariff policy, Mazda reaffirmed their investment.

During a meeting at Mazda’s global headquarters in Japan, CEO Masahiro Moro reiterated the company’s confidence in Guanajuato as a key location for its operations after 14 years in the state.

During their visit to Toyota City, the Guanajuato delegation reaffirmed the company’s commitment to the state. Toyota has invested 2.3 billion dollars in Guanajuato, creating 2,800 direct jobs.

Regarding the visit to the Honda plant, the Secretary of Economy Claudia Cristina Villaseñor Aguilar recalled that the assembly plant produced 200 thousand units in 2024. Despite current scenarios, production will remain the same this year.

Last year, Guanajuato was the Mexican state that attracted the most foreign direct investment from Japan. Forty-one and a half percent of the total investment destined for Mexico went to Guanajuato.

In 2024, Guanajuato attracted $1.783 billion from Japan. Mexico City followed with $774 million, and Aguascalientes followed with $411.5 million.

Japan is Guanajuato’s main trading partner and has invested more than $8.9 billion in 145 projects, offering more than 48,000 jobs.
