Guanajuato strengthens its energy infrastructure with projects zorth USD 1.946 billion
León, Guanajuato, September 4, 2026. Guanajuato’s energy strategy is advancing with a portfolio of 14 projects that, collectively, represent an estimated investment of USD 1.946 billion and will add 1,728 megawatts (MW) of new power generation capacity across different locations throughout the state.
The projects are part of the Guanajuato Suma strategy, through which the State Government seeks to create more favorable conditions for the growth of established businesses, facilitate the arrival of new investments, and expand opportunities for economic development.
The energy project portfolio includes developments located in municipalities such as Salamanca, San Felipe, San Diego de la Unión, Doctor Mora, Romita, San Miguel de Allende, San Luis de la Paz, Dolores Hidalgo, Manuel Doblado, Celaya, Silao, and Irapuato.
The technologies included in the portfolio comprise solar photovoltaic and geothermal generation, as well as cogeneration and combined-cycle projects, aimed at expanding and diversifying the state’s available energy infrastructure.
The availability of sufficient and reliable energy is a key factor for Guanajuato’s productive activity, particularly in response to the needs of industries such as automotive, manufacturing, and emerging technology sectors, which require infrastructure capable of supporting their expansion processes.
The impact of this strategy also extends to local businesses. Micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) account for 99.8% of Guanajuato’s economic units and generate more than 70% of formal employment. Strengthening local supply chains and business-to-business linkages is therefore an important component of the state’s economic development strategy.
The economic policy promoted by the Government of Guanajuato identifies energy as a strategic component for attracting and consolidating investment, strengthening business activity, and creating the conditions necessary for economic growth to have a direct impact on the population.
The Secretariat of Economic Development plays a coordinating role in this strategy, with the aim of maintaining Guanajuato’s competitive position and addressing the challenges arising from an increasingly technology-driven global economy.
